Ryan Hanau's Résumé / CV

Overview

I'm a User Experience (UX/UI) specialist working internationally with over 22 years of experience (beginning in 1995) creating highly usable products and interfaces. I see my role as building bridges between humans and machines and companies/organizations following an evidence-based methodology. I strongly believe that excellent design comes from following the scientific method just as it is done in healthcare and other disciplines. I also build bridges between different project stakeholders—business, engineering, design, marketing and end-users. I have a broad range of skills encompassing both design and research as well as creativity, strategy, visual design and front-end coding. I am equally comfortable with a large variety of research methodologies (qualitative and quantitative). I am equal parts hands-on individual contributor and team leader. For me the two go hand-in-hand. My management style is to lead by doing. Ultimately, I believe in the power of teams.

My recent focus covers the enterprise B2B side where I have lead the design of complex applications in the Cyber, FinTech, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Big Data, Cloud, SAAS, BI and IoT domains. I also am proficient in the consumer B2C space and have worked across many sectors from tech, health, retail, e-commerce, fashion, luxury, automotive, publishing, and many others. I have worked on a wide variety of well-known brands including recently Louis Vuitton, Visa, Audi, Intel and Toyota as well as a variety of startups including ThreatStream/Anomali, Aktana and Zappos. I have designed for a large variety of devices including desktop, mobile, tablet, touchscreen kiosk, proprietary business, government systems and others. I have been named on a few interface design patents and have received a wide variety of awards over the years. I have also held a senior executive role at Saatchi & Saatchi, a large NYC advertising agency, and a senior management roleat Motorola, a US Fortune 100.

I am currently working as a studio founder of Cognigencia based out of San Francisco and Amsterdam and have recently accepted assignments in Paris and Tokyo. I hold EU residence via the Netherlands and have the right to work across the EU. Previously, I founded and managed another design studio, Chroma Design, and served as an college instructor teaching design and theory. Prior to that, I received an international artist-in-residence award after graduating with a Masters from Art Center
